I'm pleased to offer my 7th summer of creative writing camps and college application essay workshops for preteens and teens. All camps and workshops are supportive, encouraging, and fun! • Session 1: June 20, College Application Essay Workshop, 10 am-4 pm, $120
• Session 2: June 22-26, Creative Writing, 9am-3pm, 8th-12th grades, $400
• Session 3: July 6-10, Writing Around the Bay, 9am-4pm, 8th-12th grades, $475
• Session 4: July 13-17, Creative Writing, 9am-3 pm, 7th-10th grades, $400
• Session 5: July 20-25, Creative Writing, 10am-4pm, 9th-12th grades, $400
• Location: My home in N. Berkeley, near Solano Ave.
• Extended program through 5:00 pm available for all in-person workshops.
• $75 discount if you register for two workshops.

• Maximum 12 participants per session. College Essay maximum is 8.

Descriptions

Creative Writing Camps

In the Creative Writing Camps, participants are encouraged to write what interests them (stories, poems, etc), get to know other writers, share their writing in a supportive atmosphere, and compile a booklet of the group's pieces. We'll use fun, inspiring, easy writing prompts to generate ideas and create voices, plots, characters, and settings. Participants develop writing skills and confidence--and many report doing better afterwards with school writing assignments.

Writing Around the Bay

Similar to the Creative Writing Camps except each morning we'll explore different Bay Area museums, cafes, neighborhoods, and parks--wherever we think we'll find inspiration for our stories and poems! After writing in those places, we'll return to our regular location to do more writing and writing-related activities for the afternoon. Travel will be by public transportation.

College Application Essay Workshop

This essay workshop teachers your teen to how to write outstanding college application essays. Participants learn the elements of a strong essay, generate topic ideas, and draft essays for the UCs and Common Application. Limited to 8 so each student receives individualized attention and essay feedback. Workshop participants are guaranteed space in Deborah's one-on-one essay coaching practice. 100% minus $45 registration fee up to five weeks prior to start of workshop. 75% minus registration fee up to four weeks prior. 50% minus registration fee up to three weeks prior. 25% minus registration fee up to two weeks prior. No refunds given within 7 days of start of workshop.

About the instructor:

Deborah Davis, MFA is the author of three award-winning novels for young people and instructs the popular Summer Teen Writing Workshops in Berkeley, CA. She has taught writing in person and more recently online to children, teens, and adults for 25 years. In addition to teaching, Deborah offers private writing consultations, manuscript editing, and college essay coaching.
